Gratitude Spiral: Day 65

Today, I’m grateful for the time I have to spend with my mother, accompanying her to appointments and on shopping trips.

I appreciate the gift that it is to have this time with her.

Today, I’m grateful for my guitar.

Last night, while playing it at church, I felt lost in the songs, an integral part of the music, part of the momentum of prayer. I was drawn to the guitar at a young age and have had a love/hate relationship with it ever since. When my right shoulder froze a couple of years ago, I stopped playing for almost a year. It’s good to be back at it.

Today, I’m grateful for my meditation chair.

We bought the chair on a trip to Vermont in 2016. You can read about it here. After being away for a few days, settling down in my chair to meditate feels like visiting an old friend. 🙂

Today, I’m grateful for my Dad, on his birthday.

I’m lucky to still have him in my life. My perspective on his infallibility and his human-ness has changed as I’ve grown up, but he’s still my Dad and I love him for that.

Today, I’m grateful for the ability to learn new things.

Life would be so boring if we stopped right where we are and said “That’s it. I’m good with what I understand and what I believe to be true. I don’t want any more input. No more new experiences for me, thank you very much.” Instead, I welcome the chance to learn something new each day.

What about you?

Gratitude Spiral: Day 60

Today, I’m grateful for the sound of gulls in January.

I don’t live near the ocean, but I’m staying at a hotel in Newport, RI this weekend. My hotel room was so stuffy, I had to open the window to get relief. The cries of the gulls hovering over the pier echoed off nearby brick buildings. A hauntingly beautiful sound in the middle of winter. 🙂

Gratitude Spiral: Day 59

Today, I’m grateful for the opportunity to get away from my normal routine and spend time with hundreds of women from the North Atlantic Region of Sweet Adelines International who love to sing!

As a singer, I never stop learning how to be better at this craft. And it’s encouraging to be among so many women willing to do the same. 🙂

Today, I’m grateful for blogging

I started blogging with WordPress eight years ago, as a means to make creative writing a more consistent practice in my life. I’m still here and enjoying the joys and challenges of it 🙂

Gratitude Spiral: Day 57

Today, I’m grateful for black bean brownies.

As a recovering sugar addict, I’m in the habit of avoiding simple carbs like sugar and white flour. When I found a recipe for brownies made with black beans and whole oats, I had to give it a try. What a treat!

Today, I’m grateful for Mohs surgery.

I never heard of it until someone I love needed it. It’s a highly successful procedure developed to remove basal cell skin cancer. And today, I’m very thankful for it. 🙂
