Gratitude Spiral: Day 354

Today, I’m grateful for a cool starry night.

I like to step outdoors after sunset when these warm autumn days are cooling down, and look up at the clear sky full of stars. It’s a quiet beauty that we can easily forget about as we go about our busy daily lives.

Gratitude Spiral: Day 343

Today, I’m grateful for the melting of the early snow.

It’s melted enough to uncover the leaves that need to be raked and dumped into the compost area. It’s not that I love raking, but sometimes it’s just got to be done. 🙂

Gratitude Spiral: Day 340

Today, I’m grateful for this new month of November.

I started this Gratitude Spiral in November of 2019, on Thanksgiving Day. (See the first Gratitude Spiral post here.) So much has happened since then. Who knew there’d be a pandemic, political upheaval, protests, and riots of the magnitude we’ve seen. I’m grateful to have started this daily practice.

Gratitude Spiral: Day 328

Today, I’m grateful for help with the yard work.

Sometimes it feels like all the housework and yard work fall on my shoulders. While it’s true that I’m not gainfully employed outside the realm of home maintenance, it’s still nice when one of my children or my husband has the time to take on some of the tasks. Even better, is when we can work side-by-side to get the work done. 🙂

Gratitude Spiral: Day 325

Today, I’m grateful for the colors I see on my daily walk.

I’m grateful that I don’t need to step far from home to take in the colors that autumn brings right to my own neighborhood.

Gratitude Spiral: Day 323

Today, I’m grateful for autumn colors in New England.

We took a trip up north to Vermont last weekend to visit friends, but also to do some leaf-peeping. It turns out that the oranges and yellow were gorgeous, but the deep reds were mostly gone. And when we drove south again, toward home, we discovered the reds on full display. Our part of New England is just reaching its peak colors. What a gift!

Gratitude Spiral: Day 322

Today, I’m grateful for yesterday’s soaking rain.

For much of this year, New England has been suffering a drought. We’ve lacked a steady dose of rain, which has been hard on gardens and lawns, not to mention its effect on wells, or rivers & streams. Yesterday’s rain doesn’t erase the drought, but the thirsty ground sure had a good drink! And for that I’m grateful.

Gratitude Spiral: Day 321

Today, I’m grateful for time spent outdoors this past weekend.

Something about being outdoors can lift your spirits and lighten any darkness you might be carrying around. This time of year, a brisk walk, taking in the views of changing foliage, can be the best medicine for the soul. I’m grateful for taking time to do just that.

Gratitude Spiral: Day 319

Today, I’m grateful for a planned trip to Vermont.

Hopefully, we’ll catch some nice foliage, although it may be past time to see peak colors. We’ll be visiting some friends and doing some hiking, taking in the autumn scenery this afternoon and tomorrow, weather permitting. I’m looking forward to it. 🙂

Gratitude Spiral: Day 309

Today, I’m grateful for this first day of October.

The year 2020 is moving right along. Maybe I’ll celebrate this new month by putting up a few fall decorations. All the antisocial-ness that’s come from Covid-19 social distancing has put a damper on my desire to decorate. But today, I think I’ll make the extra effort.
