Gratitude Spiral: Day 341

Today, I’m grateful for a pandemic-inspired Halloween.

As I put away the Halloween paraphernalia today, I can’t help but admire the way friends and neighbors stepped up to the challenge of celebrating safely this Halloween. Treats were delivered via chutes, on sticks in candy-garden fashion, individually wrapped on help-yourself tables, and hung in grab bags from ropes tied across driveways. More industrious friends planned outdoor games and treasure hunts, and made other activities possible while still socially distancing. It boosts my faith in our ability to adapt in difficult circumstances. πŸ™‚

Gratitude Spiral: Day 283

Today, I’m grateful for my children still asking for my advice or opinion β€” every once in a while.

They’ve all grown up to be independent adults, but it’s nice to hear from them occasionally. And I’m happy that sometimes they might still need me, too. πŸ˜‰

Gratitude Spiral: Day 197

Today, I’m grateful for my washing machine.

It’s one of those things I take for granted most of the time, but I’m thankful for its thirty years of work. It got me through multiple loads of laundry, produced by four growing children, like a champion. Although it’s been repaired a few times, it keeps on serving me well. πŸ™‚

Gratitude Spiral: Day 189

Today, I’m grateful for old video tapes of my kids that are still viewable.

Many of us who raised kids in the eighties and nineties have home movies lying around that require outdated technology to view. I’ve borrowed a VCR from my father, along with a converter, and now I can begin the process of digitizing the memories before they’re lost forever. πŸ™‚

Gratitude Spiral: Day 24

Today, I’m grateful for my children.

Their uniqueness as they travel into adulthood is a wonder to me. Their lives have shaped me by their gifts, their challenges, their struggles, and their dreams. And I’m grateful every day for the gift of each of them.
